My Macbook Pro 15" (pre-unibody) was clogged up and it was time

Every 6-9 months I need to take apart this laptop to clear the fan vents of dust buildup which make the thing overheat. It's been 20mn now and through the same level of usage, my computer is running quite a few degrees cooler than it would previously : from ~190-195 back down to ~138-155 and the fans aren't duty-cycled out anymore.

They would run full-speed (5100rpm) but now they're settled at 4000rpm tops

it's not tough to take apart

Get some of this or something similar and put it over the fans or the inlet vents.

I need to do this to my MacBook, again. It's probably been about a year and at that time I cleaned it out, removed and cleaned the heatsink and fan and reapplied the thermal paste that helped a lot. It's back to it's old tricks of running the fairly constantly (6200 rpm max here), hovering north of 80°C (176F) most of the time, 95°C is not untypical (203F).

Also, I can't get Mavericks, nor Mountain Lion for that matter, and my battery has pretty much had it (>1000 cycles). Probably about time to get a new one; though I keep saying that and this one just keeps on going.

IIRC a new battery for mine would be $16o or so and I have trouble justifying it. I still get about an hour if I use it off its leash. I think if a good deal pops up on a 13" Air or 13" Retina I might jump on it. Just have to make up my mind.

How much life are you seeing on the new battery? Identical to new or down because of the computer still running a bit hotter than brand new.
